Cat’s urine and the feces interact with bacteria creating massive amounts of ammonia molecules that cause the strong ammonia odor. The most common bacteria found in a litter box is Escherichia Coli, more commonly known as E. Coli.
Breathe Free Litterbox Mate prevents bacteria growth in the box by cation exchange. This is the removal of ammonia and moisture from the air. When a molecule of ammonia (NH3) is hydrated, the reaction produces ammonium (NH4+), which is readily exchanged for all or part of the calcium, potassium and magnesium cations contained in our product. It is then adsorbed into our natural product that consists of a stable aluminosilicate lattice.
